Oppo A73

Oppo A73

The best budget smartphone?

Oppo A73 has arrived on my desk, and I found this is, in fact, a “budget” phone.
That should be the biggest selling point of the Oppo A73, you could use it for weeks and never feel like this is a phone you snagged for half the price of its competitors.
To start with, the A73 has a classy feel to its design; like an iPhone and a Galaxy made sweet, sweet love, and this was the result. It feels good in the hand, it feels good in the pocket. Speaking as someone who likes a big screen, this is pretty much the perfect size. 6.0" FHD+  Full screen, exquisite body, larger screen. The A73 touch screen provides an almost boundless vision. A virtual home button is also available.

Its 6.0” FHD+ full screen fits perfectly into a frame. The 2160*1080 pixel screen provides you with an immersive visual experience be it for surfing the web, browsing your photo albums, watching videos or playing games.
The camera is one of the big selling points from Oppo’s point of view, 16MP A.I. Beauty Front Camera capture the real you.

The OPPO A73 brings camera phones into a new generation. Applying A.I. technology to beautify images, it will give you the most natural and flawless selfies. It heightens your natural beauty based on your age, skin tone or skin type. Propelled by complex algorithms of A.I. beauty recognition technology, the A73’s 16MP front camera captures you at your best. I am by no means a selfie expert, but yes, I did notice just a little glistening. I found the Oppo A73 camera to take good photos with both front and rear cameras, and it would take a keen eye to discern a difference in quality between these and a more pricey product. Facial feature optimisation. Details more gorgeous, A73’s facial feature optimisation presents the best you. Using more than 200 positioning pinpoints, the A73 highlights the exquisite contours of your face to present the most natural-looking selfies, while its beauty-iris tool will have you sparkling in each photo.

More light, better selfie f/2.0 aperture. An ultra-sensitive f/2.0 aperture is set in the front camera. It helps you capture your best selfies at all hours, day or night. Plus, the newly upgraded 16MP camera can automatically recognise dark or light scenes and will intelligently polymerise into the large 2.0µm pixel, which gives a powerful quadruple capability of sensing light. Combined with the OPPO Screen Flash function, you'll be blown away by your glowing selfies.
What probably impressed me most is the quality of the facial recognition and fingerprint options for accessing your phone. The Speedy Facial Unlock, they called “New path to future” You can always unlock the A73 screen with your fingerprint. A73 also offers a super friendly flagship function unlocking your screen simply by holding the phone up as if to say hi.
It will help when your hands are wet. You can use either your face or your finger print as the password. And both are speedy and convenient.

A touch of the finger to the sensor wakes the phone up automatically and for me became the most common way to turn it on quick and seamless. Alternatively, if you press the power button on and give the screen your best Blue Steel look, then it will pick up your face without much fuss – the only problems I encountered here were when wearing my glasses.

I’ve used a few phones with fingerprint and facial recognition access before but I’ve never used one as quick and seamless as the Oppo A73. Of course, the more traditional methods of locking and unlocking your phone are available too.
Lastly, the battery life this happens to be extremely good. After some heavy use where I spent several hours streaming video, and even more time tethering mobile data to my laptop – the Oppo was still ready for more at the end of the day.

In about a month of trialling it, I had just one day where the phone informed it was down to 20 per cent battery (and this was pretty late in the day). Other than that I was able to use it as much as liked all day long without needing a charge.

ColorOS 3.2 Based on Android 7.1 meeting diversified needs

ColorOS 3.2, the brand-new design interface based on Android 7.1, is a true novelty. You can enjoy its brighter looks, snappier downloads and greater security features while ColorOS 3.2 helps you surfing with top speed. By planting multiple modes in A73, ColorOS 3.2 also fulfills your diversified needs. The split screen mode helps you switch between a Youtube movie and a chat with friends freely. Night shield feature reduces eye strain in the dark surroundings. Honestly, there’s nothing massive here, there’s just a number of things that it will take you time to get used to, and compared to what we’re familiar with, it feels like a case of fixing things that aren’t broke.
I’d certainly recommend the Oppo A73. It might not have quite as much under the hood as the flagship models of other brands, but unless you’re a dedicated smartphone enthusiast you probably won’t really notice the difference.

Most importantly, the Oppo A73 is available for half or even a third of what you’d pay for a topline smartphone. It would have to be one of the very best value smartphones available.
