Tails 3.6

Tails 3.6: The Linux distribution for anonymity launched with improvements

The Tails Project announced that it has launched the new version TAILS 3.6, the operating system based on Linux that suffers “amnesia” for the sake of our private data. Yes, the operating system for anonymity has a new update, the same system that they say that Edward Snowden, the former CIA agent used to surf anonymously online and keep his privacy. Well now you too can enjoy the new version of this LiveCD.

Tails is a live operating system that tries to preserve your privacy and your anonymity. It helps you to use the Internet anonymously and avoid censorship in almost any place and any computer, but without leaving a trace unless you explicitly ask for it. It is a complete operating system designed to be used from a USB memory or a DVD regardless of the original operating system of the computer. It is free software and is based on Debian GNU / Linux. Tails comes with several preconfigured applications with security in mind: web browser, instant messaging client, email client, office packages, image and sound editor, etc.

Online anonymity and censorship avoidance Tor Tails relies on Tor’s anonymity network to protect your online privacy: All software is configured to connect to the Internet through Tor if an application tries to connect directly to the Internet, the connection is automatically blocked for security. Tor is an open and distributed network that helps you defend yourself from a form of network surveillance that threatens your freedom and privacy, your confidential business activities and relationships, as well as government security. Tor protects you by redirecting your communications around a distributed network of relays made by volunteers around the world: which prevents someone from observing your communications from the sites you visit, also prevents the sites you browse from obtaining your physical location.

be anonymous online by hiding your location, connect to services that would otherwise be censored; resist attacks that block the use of Tor, using elusion tools such as bridges.

Use it anywhere without leaving a trace.

Using Tails in a computer does not alter it, nor does it depend on the installed operating system. So you can use it on your computer, a friend’s, or your local library. After turning off Tails, the computer will start again with its usual operating system.
Tails is configured with special care not to use the hard drives of the computer, even if there is space exchanged in them. The only storage space used by Tails is in the RAM, which is automatically deleted when the computer is turned off. So you will not leave any traces on the computer of the Tails system itself, or what you used it for. That’s why we call Tails “amnesiac.”
This allows you to work with sensitive documents on any computer, and it protects you from recovering information after shutting down. Of course, you can still explicitly save specific documents to another USB, or a removable hard drive and remove them for future use.

Tails 3.6 will now be moved by a fairly recent kernel, Linux 4.15, with all the improvements that implies, such as the Meltdown and Specter patches that will improve the security of our systems, preventing these vulnerabilities from being exploited. Remember that it is an operating system oriented to privacy and anonymity, therefore the aspect of security is especially pampered …
In addition to these improvements, they have also solved some bugs of previous versions and have added software packages in more updated versions as usual. For example, the latest TOR Browser version available to date has been added, as well as the Tor client / server implementation, as well as updates for the Electrum 3.0.6 and Mozilla Thunderbird 52.6.0 components, as well as other features and improvements.
The unknown developers have done a good job, and the list of news does not end there. Now we have a new tool called pdf-redact-tools command line to clean PDF metadata, in addition to having the ability to convert. It’s called pdf-redact-tools. We will also find a profile enabled by AppArmor by default for Mozilla Thunderbird for better security, and other improvements such as the automatic installation of video drivers to improve the support of GPUs, etc.
